High Poly or High polygon 3D modeling including digital sculpting. This is the way to get the highly detailed surface of the digital model. That allows you to get very thorough and detailed objects through production by the 3d printing. Only the capabilities of a 3D printer imposes limitations on the degree of detail of final product.
